The Central Bank of Russia has taken a decisive step toward a formal regulatory framework for digital assets by including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the stablecoin Tether in the list of cryptocurrencies authorized for trading on exchanges and by domestic financial intermediaries. The central entity selected these three cryptocurrencies due to their high liquidity, daily trading volume, and market capitalization.
The proposal follows the prior enactment of legislation that establishes the legal framework for digital currencies and digital rights in Russia, officially recognizing cryptocurrencies as property and regulating their circulation in order to integrate them into the country’s financial system.
