Emerging market currencies were mixed ahead of U.S. inflation data due later in the day, while the MSCI emerging market currency benchmark rose 0.1% as the dollar weakened against most major currencies. The South African rand and Hungarian forint led gains, while the Indonesian rupiah and South Korean won lagged. A Citigroup team led by strategist Luis Costa said U.S. inflation data was the factor traders were most focused on, and that the wave of AI company earnings was continuing to shape risk appetite. The team also said a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz remained a real tail risk.
