Georgia’s prime minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, refused to restore diplomatic relations with neighboring Russia until Moscow reviews its recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
“As long as the so-called recognition remains a fait accompli by the Russian Federation, of course, diplomatic relations cannot be restored,” Kobakhidze said.
According to Kobakhidze, a peaceful settlement of the conflict around Abkhazia and South Ossetia is one of Georgia’s key foreign policy priorities. Tbilisi expects the issue to be resolved after political changes in Russia.
