Firmware vulnerabilities and post-quantum security—do these two things even relate?

Chalkias, the chief cryptographer at Mysten Labs, recently leaked some information himself, saying they have already rented a factory at a secret location to prepare for mass production of a post-quantum hardware wallet card. The goal is to drive the cost below $10, and NFC signatures can be done in one to two seconds.

The reason he gave is quite interesting. He said it’s meant to guard against losses of the kind caused by firmware vulnerabilities like those in Coldcard. That incident reportedly led to roughly $130 million worth of Bitcoin holders’ funds being lost.
