This faith did not come to us on a carpet of silk; rather, its roads were worshiped with the blood of the pure.
In Mu’tah, bodies fell, and the banner remained steadfast.
Zayd fell; then Ja‘far embraced it with his arms after his hands were cut off, and then Ibn Rawahah completed the march.

The three commanders who were martyred at the Battle of Mu’tah—those whom Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allāh appointed, in order, to take up the banner—were these:
Zayd ibn Hārithah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Ja‘far ibn Abī Tālib (may Allah be pleased with him)
‘Abd Allāh ibn Rawāhah (may Allah be pleased with him)
And they were martyred in the Battle of Mu’tah. May Allah have mercy upon them and accept them with Him.
