According to CNBC, Target appointed its first chief artificial intelligence officer on Tuesday, naming Chandhu Nair as chief AI officer and senior vice president and Purvi Shah as senior vice president of user experience. Nair, who previously held senior roles at Lowe's, Staples and Gap, said he wants a more coordinated approach to AI at Target, including better inventory management and faster decision-making. The retailer has already been investing in generative AI through tools such as Target Trend Brain and a conversational AI program launched last holiday season to help shoppers find gifts. The move comes as Walmart, Gap and Best Buy also expand AI efforts, while former Walmart CEO Douglas McMillon told CNBC's "Squawk Box" in December that he stepped down in part because of the pace of AI-driven change.
