【Trading volume suddenly surges, and my first reaction is—someone is up to something】

Seeing UNI stuck around 3.91 for the past few days, down another 2.3% over 24 hours, and only up 1.5% over 7 days—based on this data alone, you really have no idea what the market is thinking. But I checked the on-chain data: the trading volume suddenly expanded—over 5% of the market cap. The moment this signal appeared, my nerves tightened.

The time I got cut in 2017, it was in exactly this kind of sideways consolidation. I didn’t take it seriously—then suddenly a needle-like move dropped, and by the time I wanted to run, I couldn’t. In my experience, this kind of volume expansion usually comes down to two possibilities: either the main players are washing the market, or there’s truly about to be a trend change. Considering UNI’s current position—it's just one point away from key support at 3.82, and the resistance level at 4.11 is less than 5% away—that’s not a coincidence. It feels like it’s been building pressure.

So what’s the mindset of the big money right now? I looked at changes in the holdings of top addresses: over the recent period, the share of addresses ranked in the top 100 has been quietly rising. This isn’t retail traders buying—it’s institutional-sized capital accumulating. The exchange net flow recently also leans toward net inflows, which suggests someone is transferring coins to cold wallets or DeFi protocols rather than rushing to sell. They’re genuinely stocking up.

So what does this actually mean when it plays out in the real world? I’ve talked about UNI’s fundamentals: Uniswap’s DEX trading volume has been consistently live, and the V3 LP revenue model is fairly stable. But competition in this space is fierce now—Curve and Sushi are fighting for market share. UNI’s valuation down 91% is definitely oversold, but being oversold doesn’t automatically mean an immediate rebound—you need to see whether there are catalysts. The on-chain signal I’m getting is this: someone is slowly accumulating at the low end, but it’s not time to pump yet. They’re still waiting.

So what’s my mindset right now? I’m watching. My hands aren’t itchy, but my eyes are locked in. The surge in volume is the footprint left by big capital. If you follow that footprint, you can guess what they’re setting up—but guessing isn’t enough; you can’t just charge in with them. You have to wait until they actually move.

What about you—what’s your mindset? With this wave of volume expansion, do you think it’s just a wash, or is there really a trend change coming?
