PANews August 11 report: According to 36Kr, ByteDance has recently established a first-level department called “AI Data and Security.” It operates in parallel with departments such as Seed, Flow, and Douyin. The department is led by Wang Yinglei (Adam Wang), who was previously responsible for TikTok’s operations and live-streaming. Its core mission is to provide cross-modal data services to all of ByteDance’s large models. The department integrates the Global Data team, which was formed in 2023 by Fu Yue, a member of the founding team of TikTok, as well as the group data middle platform DMC and Flow’s AI data platform AIDP. It covers the entire process of data standard definition, sourcing and procurement, synthesis and cleaning, quality evaluation, and security and compliance. Previously, ByteDance had already invested more than tens of millions of dollars in data budgets for training world models and code models, and adopted a “horse-racing” mechanism to divide teams by directions such as world models, code, and high-difficulty academic subjects.
