Bitcoin policy organizations, together with digital asset, cybersecurity, and open-source community groups, have jointly issued an open letter titled “Defenders Need the Frontier,” calling on frontier AI labs to grant early and trusted access to qualified open-source financial infrastructure defenders to the strongest models.

Core logic: Attackers are already using AI to find vulnerabilities, but defenders can’t access the most powerful models—tilting the balance of offense and defense. The letter urges labs to expand their trusted access program by providing pre-release models, computing resources, secure environments, and coordinated vulnerability disclosure channels, so that defenders of $BTC and the related open-source financial ecosystem can strengthen their defenses one step ahead.

The roster of co-signing institutions is impressive: Strategy, Bitwise, Ledger, Galaxy, MARA, Blockstream, Trezor, Strike, River, Kraken, and more, covering the full chain from exchanges and mining companies to custody and infrastructure. This is an industry-driven “security alignment” movement: the more powerful the AI becomes, the more open-source finance must take the initiative in defense.
