FlightAware has sued prediction market platform Kalshi in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleging unauthorized use of its data and name to create a "flight cancellation gambling market." According to Foresight News, FlightAware said Kalshi had listed it as the primary settlement data source for the related market.
The flight-tracking service provider said Kalshi violated an agreement barring the use of its data for commercial or gambling purposes and accused the platform of trademark infringement and unfair competition. FlightAware also said the prediction events could leave travelers stranded, disrupt airline operations, and threaten safety.
The plaintiff is seeking unspecified damages and an injunction to stop Kalshi from continuing to use its data and name.
