Bitcoin BIP-110 Upgrade Cools Off! Hashrate Support Only 2.6%, Forked Chain Stops After Two Blocks
The Bitcoin network has recently witnessed a dispute over its upgrade path. The BIP-110 proposal aims to limit non-financial data in transactions over the next year, but current support falls far short of expectations.
Data shows that the current hashrate support rate for BIP-110 is only about 2.6%, leaving a wide gap from the 55% target threshold. Although the Ocean mining pool supports the proposal, miners using its DATUM protocol—Simple Mining—have still chosen to continue mining the Bitcoin main chain, successfully mining block height 961,634.
Previously, nodes supporting BIP-110 began rejecting blocks that did not signal support, creating a temporary forked chain. However, this chain ran for only two blocks before growth stopped. At present, the Bitcoin main chain is already ahead by more than 200 blocks.
This incident once again shows that changes to the Bitcoin network are not decided by a few people, but are the outcome of a global contest among miners, nodes, and the community. For any major upgrade, the direction ultimately depends on hashrate and consensus.
