Buffett sold U.S. stocks for three years and is finally starting to buy back again

Berkshire Hathaway’s latest 2026 Q2 earnings report shows:
In the second quarter, it bought about $23.47 billion worth of stocks and sold about $3.69 billion, for net purchases of nearly $19.8 billion

This also marks the first time in more than three years that Berkshire has returned to being a net buyer after 14 consecutive quarters of net selling

As of the end of June, Berkshire’s fair value of equity investments had reached $323.8 billion
Its top five holdings are Alphabet (Google), American Express, Apple, Bank of America, and Coca-Cola

Most intriguing is Alphabet
Berkshire only began building a position last year, and in this year’s Q2 it sharply increased its stake again, adding about $10 billion
Buffett has also previously admitted that Alphabet was a company he bought too late, and that the initial position was his own decision

With nearly $400 billion in cash, waiting for more than three years, and now putting back nearly $19.8 billion into the stock market again—this doesn’t necessarily mean the U.S. stock market will rise right away, but at least it suggests that some prices have started to make him feel it’s worth taking action

As for whether it will keep falling afterward, I don’t know
But if he ends up stuck, being able to sit across from the stock wizard at the same table is at least some psychological comfort, haha
