How hungry is AI for memory? Just look at what storage giants are doing.
This week, the SK Hynix board approved an investment of 54 trillion won: it will build two semiconductor fabs at once. The Yongin Y2 plant will receive 35.2 trillion won and focus on DRAM. The Cheongju M17 plant will get 19.1 trillion won and target NAND flash memory. The cleanrooms for the two fabs are scheduled to be commissioned in June 2029 and December 2028, respectively.
HBM and enterprise-class SSD demand are out in the open— the harder AI runs, the more valuable storage becomes. How these storage companies—$MU $SNDK —will compete remains to be seen.#存储芯片 #AI #semiconductors
