This time, the U.S. sanctions are no longer targeting only exchanges
On August 7, 2026, the OFAC added Aban Tether Exchange and SHPS Shelbit (Shelbit Exchange) to the Iran-related SDN list. The focus has shifted from a single exchange to operators, affiliated companies, and on-chain addresses.
According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, IRGC-related addresses sent more than $1 million in digital assets to Shelbit addresses, while Shelbit addresses transferred more than $2 million to IRGC-related addresses. Addresses controlled by Kayvanpour also transferred more than $2 million into Nobitex. OFAC also stated that Aban Tether handled multi-million-dollar transactions involving Nobitex, Wallex, Bitpin, and Ramzinex.
What’s truly worth keeping is the verification approach: when you see a sanctions news item, first open OFAC Recent Actions and the SDN entries, cross-check the legal name, aliases, registered location, official website, wallet addresses, and the sanctioned parties/projects. Then review separately the exchange entity, operator/affiliates, wallet addresses, and the asset issuer. Aban Tether has been listed. If the case involves U.S. jurisdiction, the 50% ownership rule, or material transactions, first screen counterparties, and then assess the impact on $BTC , $ETH , $BNB , and cross-border flows.
