📚 The book Sherry read during the transition from 2025 to 2026
On December 8, I had a very special opportunity when Linh from Spiderum messaged me via Threads, inviting me to try reading the book “Greed and Reason: Observations on psychology over 25 years of Vietnamese stock investment”.
That moment came at the right time, as I had just shared my story about taking a securities certification course, after nearly 2 years of officially participating in the market since 2023, even though I had registered to study since 2017 in my first year of university but had to pivot to crypto.
The book was printed in a limited edition of 5,000 copies since October 2025. It begins with the journey of the first cornerstone layer for the market, Dr. Le Van Chau, and concludes with reflections from his daughter, Le Thi Le Hang. Perhaps that is why each page of the book carries a very “real” perspective, very authentic, and especially has historical depth.
What impressed me the most was how the book recreates the 25 years of development of the Vietnamese stock market through the lens of human psychology:
from the early days struggling with the capital market puzzle,
to the crash of 2008, the economic fluctuations of 2012,
then Covid 2020,
and even the shocking scandals like ROS, FLC, or Truong My Lan.
All of this is compiled from over 400 references, enough to show that this is not just a storytelling book, but a serious record of the growth journey – both reason and greed – of many generations of Vietnamese investors.
