Tencent’s WorkBuddy is now one of the company’s highest-priority AI products, after a broad ad blitz that began in May and a rapid concentration of resources inside Tencent, according to Jiemian News. A Tencent CSIG source said the product has been treated internally as a strategic project, with many requests for compute, technology and marketing resources approved quickly.

Market data cited by Jiemian News showed WorkBuddy ranked first in China’s office agent platforms in the second quarter of 2026, with 20.97 million PC monthly visits, ahead of ByteDance’s TRAE and Alibaba’s QoderWork combined. Jiemian News also said WorkBuddy has about 20 million monthly active users and daily active users in the millions.

The product originated from Tencent Cloud’s CodeBuddy tool launched in 2023. After Claude Cowork was released in January 2026, CodeBuddy head Wang Shengjie proposed WorkBuddy, and a first version was built over one weekend for internal testing. Tencent later shifted some QClaw-related business and teams into the WorkBuddy unit in July.

WorkBuddy is integrated with Tencent Docs and linked to ima, Tencent Meeting, WeCom and Tencent LeGo. Tencent has also opened the product to multiple models, including Hunyuan, DeepSeek, GLM and Kimi. On July 6, the day Tencent launched Hunyuan 3, WorkBuddy became an early adopter and temporarily offered free access; Tencent later said Hunyuan’s compute usage hit a peak and afternoon queue rates once exceeded 50%.

Tencent has not set a commercial KPI for WorkBuddy yet, but its enterprise business is expected to be the main revenue source. Jiemian News reported that the ecosystem team is in close talks with many companies on procurement and joint development, with this year’s focus on expanding enterprise coverage and building repeatable solutions for government and enterprise clients, manufacturing and internet customers.
