The total market capitalization of the crypto market this year has shrunk by roughly $780 billion. At the end of last year it was still a bit above $3 trillion; now it’s around $2.2 trillion.
Since July 1st, the market has indeed been moving back—recovering about $170 billion. The number sounds substantial, but when put beside the $780 billion gap, it only fills a little over one-fifth. $BTC is currently quoted at $64,955, up 1.04% over the past 24 hours.
Looking at a longer timeline makes it clearer: the decline took more than half a year, and the rebound has only been in place for just over a month. In the community, talk has already started about “the bottom is in” and “funds have started flowing back,” but the numbers in people’s accounts may not agree.
What’s really hard isn’t the few days of the big crash—it’s the following months when you find you’re still a long way from your cost basis.
