Google Allows Advertising for Bitcoin Spot ETFs
Google has modified its cryptocurrency advertising restrictions, now permitting promotions for Bitcoin spot ETFs on the platform. This adjustment, implemented in December 2023, aligns with the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) approval in mid-January. The updated financial product advertising policy specifies that Google allows the advertising of cryptocurrency trust funds in the United States, contingent on SEC registration under Section 12 of the Securities Exchange Act using Form 10-12g. Advertisers must adhere to reporting requirements and local legal obligations, in addition to obtaining Google certification. The revised policy became effective on January 29, 2024, leading asset management funds like BlackRock, VanEck, and Franklin Templeton to promote their Bitcoin ETF products through sponsored links in Google search results.
