Selecting "Limit" does not make you a maker. I assumed it did.

Yesterday I placed a limit order and saw the estimated fee show zero. I took that as confirmation and moved on.

Today I tested it properly on $SPCXB .

First order: limit price 116.50, while the best bid sat at 116.53. Below the bid, nothing to match against. Estimated fee: 0 SPCXB.

Second order: limit price 116.90, while the best ask sat at 116.58. My price reached into orders already resting there. Estimated fee: 0.00003825 SPCXB.

Same order type. Same pair. Same minute. One is free, one is not.

The difference is about 0.075% of the order size, which is small on six dollars and less small on a position you actually care about.

What I had wrong: the order type describes what you asked for. Your role describes what the book did with it. A limit price that crosses the spread removes liquidity, so it settles as a taker regardless of which tab you clicked.

The first order filled 22 seconds later. Order details confirm it — Role: Maker, fee 0.00 BNB.

Zero maker fees on bStocks pairs run until 31 August. That only applies if the order actually rests on the book.

Worth checking the Role field in your own order history. It may not say what you expect.
