OpenAI released its latest blog post, stating that internal tests show the upcoming Astra model has made significant progress in agentic coding and network security. After evaluating the model under its Preparedness Framework, OpenAI said it cannot rule out that the model has reached the “critical” cyber capability threshold.
In addition, OpenAI explicitly clarified in the article that the Astra model did not participate in the recent Hugging Face security incident, and continues with benchmark testing under the Preparedness Framework to manage cutting-edge cyber capabilities. Therefore, OpenAI has paused internal Astra-related activities that have not yet met these strengthened safety and control requirements.
The definition of “critical” capability is: the model can, without human intervention, discover and develop functional zero-day vulnerabilities of all severity levels in a large number of real-world hardened critical systems; or it can independently design and carry out end-to-end novel cyberattack strategies targeting hardened objectives solely based on high-level goals. Previously, models (such as GPT-5.6-Sol) were only assessed as being at the “high” level.

On Thursday, SpaceX faced a share unlock of as many as 911.5 million shares. The number already exceeds 140% of the current publicly available float. In the short term, this is likely to amplify price volatility. The market has issued warnings that by the end of this year, a combined total of more than 4 billion shares are expected to become tradeable. This may continue to create potential selling pressure going forward. Even so, capital is still actively weighing and trading SpaceX’s long-term fundamentals.

Today’s start of the largest insider unlock since SpaceX’s IPO saw about $100 billion worth of shares enter the first selling window. However, because the share price has fallen below the $135 issue price, about 456 million shares subject to the price-trigger provisions remain locked. While expanding the float could create short-term selling pressure, it may also increase index weighting and attract long-term inflows of passive capital.

On August 7, crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett posted that although the White House has started reaching out regarding a counterproposal to the bipartisan ethics agreement put forward by Tillis-Gallego, people involved in crypto policy are still in what an industry source called a “strange state of limbo.”
Terrett cited a source saying that some of the president’s closest supporters have been working behind the scenes this week to try to bring the ethics agreement to fruition. Meanwhile, negotiations surrounding other unresolved issues are still ongoing. The White House is taking the lead in pushing forward discussions related to BRCA (the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act), in an effort to persuade enforcement agencies that still have reservations to change their stance.
