In the first six months of 2026, 46 physical attacks were recorded against participants in the cryptocurrency space, so-called wrench attacks. The total losses from them exceeded $30 million, according to a new report by Chainalysis.

For comparison, losses from similar incidents in 2025 amounted to $58 million. If the trend continues, this year will set a new anti-record in terms of losses. Moreover, this refers only to successful attacks.

If, however, we take into account all extortion attempts, ransom demands, and thefts where funds were frozen or returned, then total losses will be even higher — $316 million in 2024, $180 million in 2025, and $107 million since the beginning of 2026.

At the same time, the effectiveness of the attacks has declined — only 26% of violent abduction attempts (12 out of 46) led to the payment of a ransom, which is a decrease compared to 49% (47 out of 95) in 2025 and 67% (32 out of 48) in 2024. According to experts, this is due to the expansion of the attack vector, primarily in France. $MSFTB $NVDAB $TSMB #GoldBreaksOutFromJanuaryDowntrend
