Faith, rather than telling you that this world contains omnipotent deities, is telling us ourselves: in this unknown world, we must believe in the law of cause and effect, keep reverence in our hearts, be humble toward all things, and keep that reverence in our hearts—so that what we do has its limits.
Faith does not tell you that there are omnipotent deities in this world. Rather, it tells us that in this unknown world, we must believe in the law of cause and effect (chengfu), hold reverence in our hearts, remain humble before all things, and let that reverence guide our actions with restraint.
