Gold has really surged this round—rising more than 4% and breaking through the $4,260 level in one go. This is the biggest single-day gain since 2026, and clearly risk-averse sentiment has been ignited.
What’s driving it mainly is the uncertainty in the Middle East. Iran and Oman are nearing an agreement to resume navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, which should reassure the market. But Houthi forces are still attacking Saudi oil tankers, and security risks in the Red Sea region remain.
From a macro perspective, such geopolitical risk boosts gold’s appeal as a safe-haven asset. As a “digital gold,” $BTC should, in theory, also benefit. However, recent price action has been fairly divergent, and its correlation with gold isn’t that direct.
The U.S. July ADP employment data came in at only 44,000, well below market expectations. This could make the Federal Reserve more cautious on its rate-hike path. If expectations for easier monetary policy continue to heat up, that would be positive for the entire crypto market.
Overall, at this stage, the line between safe-haven assets and risk assets is becoming blurred. Gold is up—will BTC follow next? We’ll have to wait and see.
