The U.S. dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major currencies, fell 0.04% on August 4 and closed at 99.858 in late trading. According to ChainCatcher, the euro rose to $1.1533 from $1.1514 in the previous session, while the pound advanced to $1.3452 from $1.3431.

The dollar also changed hands at 157.66 yen, compared with 156.74 yen previously. It bought 0.8092 Swiss franc, down from 0.8101, and 1.4066 Canadian dollars, up from 1.4045. The dollar was also at 9.5192 Swedish kronor, compared with 9.5557 in the prior session.
