To run cross-chain monitoring and generate proof, in just one month he burned tens of thousands on server and bandwidth costs. He said bluntly, “If I only rely on the decentralized idealism of talking about selfless dedication, next month I’ll shut down the node and go eat dirt.”
This actually hits one of the most practical engineering dead-ends for Babylon TBV: no matter how elegant the technical architecture is or how rigorous the cryptographic proofs are, if the off-chain verification nodes that do the work can’t be adequately rewarded, the system’s security is just an empty castle in the air.
Everyone’s talking about how native #BTC can be used to tap liquidity within DeFi, but what truly makes this cross-chain machinery run are the bearings of baby’s economic model.
In this network architecture, baby is not a totem for hype—it’s the physical damping mechanism that hard-constrains node behavior. All cross-chain state monitoring nodes and ZK proof generators must stake a substantial amount of baby to get the entry ticket for block rewards. Once a node slacks off and delays broadcasting, or tries to submit dirty data, the protocol layer will immediately trigger a Slashing penalty mechanism, confiscating the staked tokens. It’s a very real economic loss that tightly locks together node incentives and network security.
At the same time, this “earn-your-keep” logic sustains a positive feedback loop. From TBV treasury creation, to generating and borrowing proofs, all the way to final unlocking, every protocol service fee generated by cross-chain state changes will be distributed in a clearly defined proportion back to token holders and nodes. This turns the traditional DeFi bridge logic of “taking fees out of thin air” into “more work, more pay—stake and take responsibility,” capturing cash flows.
But from the standpoint of practitioners, I also have to pour some cold water: this “economic-security tightly bound” model is quite fragile when facing extreme secondary-market volatility. If baby’s token price drops sharply in a short period, the economic cost of staking for nodes also shrinks. When the cost of misbehavior or making mistakes falls below the profit from an attack, the cryptographic security defenses the network originally built will face a serious test.
In the end, using native assets to tap off-chain收益 is a game of precision.
