Just took a quick look at the data—there’s something here.
What kind of concept is that 0.48 funding rate on $BNC ? With longs crowded like this, how can the long side still think it’s stable? I’ve seen too many positive funding rates above 0.3 like this—every time it’s longs stabbing each other. This isn’t strength; it’s baiting for a move. $BTC is holding steady around 63384 today, but the volume compared to 0.99 suggests there isn’t really any new incremental capital coming in. The high at 64080 was tested twice and both times got pushed back down—the long-side momentum is clearly weakening.
Fellas who do arbitrage should know: for coins with negative funding rates, like SNXX and WAXP, when the rate is close to -0.8, going long and collecting the funding fee really is attractive. But I got burned on FLEX last month—negative funding rates lasting too long don’t necessarily mean it will rise. It could also be that the project team or big players are using hedging to suppress the price.
Now for $BTC , the funding rate is 0.0033, which isn’t high, but overall the market’s long crowding isn’t low. The altcoin side with negative funding rates might actually be safer.
Do you think these extreme funding rates are a reversal signal or a continuation of the trend?
