Hedge funds are increasing their long positions in crude oil at the fastest pace in nearly four months. CFTC data shows that for the week ending July 28, WTI’s net long position surged by 21,302 contracts in a single week to 108,307, the largest weekly increase in nearly four months. Brent’s net long positions jumped even more—by more than 75,000 contracts in a week—for the strongest performance since 2016. Oil price–linked ETFs such as USO (tracking WTI), BNO (tracking Brent CL) 📈, and the diversified energy stock ETF XLE 📈 have all strengthened as money poured in.
