Revisiting Babylon: From Single-Sided Staking to the Awakening of BTC Infrastructure
In the past few days, I’ve been digging deep into the material behind @BabylonLabs_io about TBV, BABE, and Bitcoin Staking. At first, I thought they were just a set of independent features launched by Babylon. But when I pieced the contents together again, I realized I had been overlooking a crucial core logic.

Breaking the Cognitive Deadlock: The Same BTC, Different Missions
Previously, I always felt that in the Babylon ecosystem, BTC had only one use—participating in staking. But after a deeper analysis, I realized that even though they are the same native BTC, the jobs they do in different modules are completely different:
● In Bitcoin Staking: BTC serves as the security cornerstone, providing strong economic security for the Bitcoin Supernet (BSN).
● In TBV: BTC serves as self-custodied collateral; without transferring ownership, it can enter financial scenarios such as lending to unlock liquidity.

They use the same asset, yet serve entirely different goals.

BABY’s True Positioning: The Gears That Keep the Network Running
Meanwhile, BABY’s role also shattered my earlier stereotypes. It ensures the operation and governance of Babylon Genesis itself, rather than replacing BTC to complete staking.
Only then did I gradually understand what Babylon has been emphasizing recently—perhaps it’s not a single product, but a modular breakdown of different capabilities around the same design philosophy:
● BTC is responsible for security, and BTC can also be used as collateral.
● BABY is responsible for maintaining the network itself.

They are tightly related but not interchangeable.

Deeper Reflection: Infrastructure Built Around Native BTC
This also made me start thinking about a bigger question: perhaps Babylon isn’t trying to build a simple BTC staking protocol, but rather a set of underlying infrastructure built around native BTC.
Different modules handle different tasks, but they all point to the same ultimate goal: to keep BTC’s native properties as much as possible while enabling a broader range of use cases.
