In recent times, there’s been an increasingly clear change in the crypto market:
When people discuss Bitcoin now, they’re no longer just focused on price appreciation or halving cycles.
More and more people are starting to ask:
Besides being a store-of-value tool, what new value can Bitcoin create?
Over the past few years, the Bitcoin ecosystem has been exploring new possibilities— from Ordinals to BTC Layer2, and now to the increasingly popular direction of BTCFi— the market is trying to open up more application space for Bitcoin.
And during this process, Babylon came into my view.
When I first started learning about Babylon, my strongest impression was:
It isn’t trying to recreate a “new Bitcoin,” but to make the original security value that Bitcoin already has available to more blockchains.
It’s a very interesting approach.
Because in today’s blockchain world, many PoS networks face a common problem:
insufficient early ecosystem scale, limited token market value, and relatively high network security costs.
After more than a decade of development, Bitcoin has formed one of the largest global consensus mechanisms in the crypto asset world.
What Babylon wants to do is to explore how to bring BTC’s economic security capabilities into more PoS ecosystems, so that Bitcoin can evolve from merely being held as an asset into a foundational blockchain security infrastructure.
That’s also why I believe Babylon’s narrative is somewhat different from typical projects.
Many projects create new demand, while Babylon is more like re-releasing existing value.
Of course, I won’t simply assume that a promising direction will automatically succeed.
Any innovation needs to be validated by the market.
Will BTC staking be able to form sustained long-term demand? Will more chains be willing to adopt this security model? Can the Babylon ecosystem keep expanding?
These questions all take time to answer.
But based on the trend, I believe BTCFi may be entering a new phase.
If Bitcoin has the strongest consensus in the world, can that consensus become a security force for all of Web3?
That might be what makes Babylon most appealing to me.#baby $BABY @BabylonLabs_io $BTC
