You get into Futures because someone recommended it, and you get liquidated. You buy on Spot, the price drops, and you sell in a panic. Sound familiar?
The problem isn't the market; it's that you're entering the game without knowing the rules. Trading without understanding the difference between Spot, Margin, and Futures is like jumping out of a plane without checking your parachute. 🪂
1.- Differences Between Spot and Futures
The main difference between spot and futures markets lies in when the transaction is settled and whether you actually own the asset.
Spot Market: Trades are settled almost immediately. You buy or sell at the current market price and acquire actual ownership of the asset (for example, you buy a stock or cryptocurrency and it becomes yours). This is the traditional method, ideal for long-term investors.
Futures Market: You don't buy the actual asset, but a contract. You agree to buy or sell an asset at a price set today, but delivery and payment take place at a future date. It is used to speculate on the price or hedge against volatility.
2.- What Is Classic Trading?
When people refer to "Classic Trading" in the Binance interface, they mean the most basic form of Spot Trading.
In this mode, you buy or sell cryptocurrency at the current market price using only the funds available in your account. Once the order is completed, you become the immediate, actual owner of the cryptocurrency. This mode is recommended for beginners and those looking to invest long term (holding), since the risk is limited to fluctuations in the asset's price.
3.- Types of Trading on Binance
Depending on the tools and capital you use, Binance offers the following trading options:
Spot Trading: Buying and selling cryptocurrency directly at the current market price, giving you actual ownership of the assets without leverage. The cryptocurrency you buy becomes yours immediately, and you can hold it, transfer it to another wallet, or sell it whenever you want.
Margin Trading: You trade on the Spot market, but borrow funds from Binance to increase your investment capital (leverage). This amplifies your gains, but also multiplies the risk of loss if the market moves against you.
Futures Trading: You agree to buy or sell a cryptocurrency at a predetermined price on a future date (or indefinitely with perpetual futures). It allows you to use much higher leverage and gives you the ability to make money whether the price rises (a long position) or falls (a short position).
Options Trading: You acquire the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell a cryptocurrency at a specific price before an expiration date. It is often used as insurance (hedging) against volatility.
P2P Trading: Direct buying and selling between users, ideal for depositing or withdrawing funds from the crypto ecosystem using traditional bank payment methods.

4.- Risk Management: Liquidation
A vital concept to understand when moving from Spot Trading to Margin or Futures Trading is liquidation risk.
In Spot: If the market falls, your portfolio's value decreases, but the amount of cryptocurrency you own remains unchanged.
In Margin/Futures: If the market moves sharply against your leveraged position, the platform will automatically close the trade (liquidation) to protect the borrowed funds. This results in the total loss of the initial capital invested in that specific trade.
While in Spot you only lose monetary value if the price falls (and you still keep your cryptocurrency), in Margin and Futures a sharp market move against you can trigger the automatic "liquidation" of your account, meaning you lose all the margin invested in that trade.
