🏦 Largest bank in Russia Sberbank is set to enter the crypto game, revealing a new trading platform

🟡 Crypto infrastructure could launch from December

Sberbank, the largest bank in Russia, is developing infrastructure to support licensed crypto trading. According to First Deputy Chairman Alexander Vedyakhin, the bank plans to roll out the necessary system and launch a digital depository before 1/12/2026.

🔐 Custody and recognition of ownership of digital assets

The digital depository will help record customers’ ownership of crypto, track transactions outside the main blockchain, and support the processing of asset transfer orders on an existing wallet. This is considered a key component of legal crypto trading infrastructure in Russia.

⚖️ Russia tightens regulation but still keeps the door open with controls

This move comes after Russia’s State Duma passed a bill on digital currency and digital asset rights on 21/7. The bill requires exchanges, brokers, custodians, and depositories to be licensed.
Non-professional investors may be limited to buying around 300,000 rubles per year, while crypto is still not allowed for ordinary domestic payments.
