From the earliest payment experiments, to becoming a store of value, and now continually exploring more on-chain application scenarios, Bitcoin has been evolving.
But one question has always remained:
How can BTC enter a broader financial system while preserving its security and native properties?
After recently looking into Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (TBV) for @BabylonLabs_io , I found that this is a direction well worth studying.
The core goal of TBV is to let Native Bitcoin act as collateral and play a role across different chains and applications.
In the past, if users wanted BTC to participate in DeFi, they typically had to go through several steps:
Convert BTC;
Use Wrapped BTC;
Go through a cross-chain bridge;
Rely on other protocols.
While these approaches create liquidity, they also add extra layers.
TBV is trying to change this model.
It aims to let users directly use native Bitcoin as collateral while maintaining:
control over their own assets;
Bitcoin’s native properties;
less reliance on trust.
TBV has already opened a Public Testnet, and you can try Native Bitcoin-backed Borrowing based on Aave v4.
I think the biggest value of the testnet isn’t just experiencing a feature, but helping the community understand where BTCFi may go in the future.
If more and more applications support Native Bitcoin collateral in the future, then BTC will have more use cases.
