So what have I been looking at lately? Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (TBV) by @BabylonLabs_io — and I found a pretty interesting shift. In the past, we’re used to viewing Bitcoin as a store-of-value asset, but if its security capabilities can also be used by other systems, then BTC’s role could change.
Many blockchain networks require security guarantees, but building security often comes with new costs. A new system needs its own validators, its own economic model, and time to build trust. And Bitcoin, after years of validation, already has the largest crypto-asset base globally and a strong security consensus.
That’s why I think Babylon TBV is worth paying attention to. It’s not just discussing “how to make BTC earn yield,” but a deeper, more foundational question:
Can we use Bitcoin’s security properties to support more applications without changing BTC’s native logic?
In traditional approaches, when BTC enters other ecosystems, it often needs to be wrapped, custodial, or accompanied by additional trust assumptions. But TBV explores a different direction: letting native BTC participate in new economic systems while preserving, as much as possible, Bitcoin’s trust foundation.
If this direction can keep developing, in the future the value of BTC might not only be the asset held by its owners, but a security resource that other networks can borrow. That would change a lot of people’s understanding. Previously we asked, “How much yield can BTC still generate?”
But in the future, it may be more worth asking: “How much security can BTC still provide to systems?”
I think the exploration represented by $BABY is truly interesting here. It’s not just adding a financial product — it’s trying to connect two worlds: one is the security consensus that Bitcoin has accumulated over the long term, and the other is the ever-evolving on-chain application ecosystem. Of course, any infrastructure needs time to be proven. But if BTC can become the security backbone for more networks while preserving its trustless nature, its role could gradually shift from “value being preserved” to “value being used.”
Perhaps this is the direction that makes Babylon Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (TBV) worth watching long-term.
