Don't worry if you weren't able to join us on the first day. We've compiled some of the key highlights below.

Opening keynote by Richard Teng, Regional Markets Leader at Binance

“Every milestone, every improvement at Binance brings us one step closer to our core mission – empowering every individual to achieve their financial freedom.” - Richard Teng, Regional Markets Leader at Binance.

Taking the stage to open the ceremony was none other than Richard Teng, Regional Markets Leader at Binance. This year, a special announcement was made to kick off the event. Binance has launched our own Web3 Wallet, a self-custodial cryptocurrency wallet built within the Binance app.

Richard believes the future is bright for cryptocurrencies – we are on the path to mass adoption for two reasons. First, all major global financial institutions are embracing cryptocurrency and aggressively advancing the blockchain agenda.

Additionally, regulatory authorities around the world are defining a model to govern this sector, which is essential to promoting trust - a key element for widespread adoption.

Panel discussion - The consumer and brand revolution on Web3: progress and challenges

“The Web3 strategy is the way to accelerate, complement and improve the company’s strategy.” – Pär Helgosson, Web3 and Metaverse Leader, Paris Saint-Germain

Web2 consumers and brands are hungry for changes to Web3. But what does this mean for both sides of the equation? Led by Rachel Conlan, Chief Marketing Officer at Binance, this panel welcomed industry experts to enlighten us on the growth status of Web3 technology and shared insights into how brands can create an exciting and valuable user experience.

As more consumers become eager for Web3 developments and fractional ownership, more brands and companies will have to start considering the implications this will have on products and services.

“Safety is a critical success factor.” – Sinem Cantürk, Fintech and Digital Finance Leader, Partner, KPMG Türkiye

At the same time, how will the integration of Web3 technology redefine the relationship between brands and consumers, promoting trust, loyalty and personalized experiences? Sinem believes there is no one way to do this, brands need to start asking themselves key questions to build their own optimized strategies.

John Liu, Product Lead for Web3 and Blockchain Services at Amazon Web Services, summarized that companies that succeed are those that keep trying. As with machine learning in the past, continued experimentation and development on the Web3 infrastructure will be key to evolution.

Panel Discussion - Integrating the Next Billion: Charting the Path Forward

“If the next billion users are defined by risk appetite, what are they afraid of?” – Eowyn Chen, CEO of Trust Wallet.

This year's Binance Blockchain Week is focused on empowering the next billion users across the world. To kick off the conversation, the panel was led by Vishal Sacheendran, Regional Director of Strategy and Operations at Binance, and featured guest speakers: Eowyn Chen, CEO of Trust Wallet, Assistant Professor Bora Erdamar, Director of BlockchainIST Center and Yuelin Li, Director of Onfido Product.

During the panel, experts discussed inclusivity and accessibility in cryptocurrency and blockchain adoption, as well as who would include the next billion users.

Assistant Professor Bora Erdamar, Director of the BlockchainIST Center, said: “We need to make it easier to understand, we need to make it easier to enter the ecosystem.” He highlighted the roles that projects, developers and experts play in bridging the gap between the crypto ecosystem and the conventional financial system.

Yuelin Li, Chief Product Officer at Onfido, also highlighted the importance of having clear regulatory frameworks in place to provide a sense of security to consumers, which marks the difference between those who are willing to give cryptocurrency a try and those who prefer to stay within the realms of traditional finance.

Panel Discussion - Crypto for Good: Rewriting the Rules of Humanitarian Aid

“These technologies have a huge impact and huge potential for positive outcomes for children.” – Shane O'Connor, UNICEF Innovation Manager

The fundamental features of blockchain have transformed the way humanitarian aid is delivered. In this panel discussion, Esra Özdemir, Blockchain Desk Leader at EY Türkiye was joined by Shane O'Connor, Innovation Manager at UNICEF, to discuss how blockchain and cryptocurrency can significantly impact and improve the lives of people in need.

“UNICEF is the only UN agency capable of accepting, holding and disbursing cryptocurrencies.” Backed by numerous successful examples of blockchain-based humanitarian initiatives, blockchain technology has proven to be a unique and reliable way to deliver international aid.

Without a doubt, sustainability and scalability are crucial for long-term impact. Shane explores how interoperability standards or frameworks can facilitate the integration of multiple blockchain systems, enabling seamless collaboration between organizations like UNICEF and Web3-native companies.

Chat - Exploring the global regulatory landscape

“One of the positive things about the emergence of regulatory frameworks is that markets like certainty. Ultimately, as we get more certainty in the market through policies like MiCA, this will encourage more people to enter the space.” – Noah Perlman, Chief Compliance Officer at Binance

As more parts of the world begin to transition from traditional finance to blockchain, global regulations and compliance become more important than ever. Noah Perlman, Chief Compliance Officer at Binance, and Kristen Hecht, Deputy Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and Global Money Laundering Reporting Officer (GMLRO) at Binance, analyze the challenges, developments, and impact of global regulations in this evolving landscape.

Given his background in traditional finance, Noah highlighted the parallels and differences between the two industries before delving into the best approach to regulating digital assets in the Web3 space.

It's no secret that the Web3 industry is still in its infancy, with diverse regulatory approaches being adopted by local authorities around the world. However, we can all agree that 2023 is the year that regulators and policymakers really step up their efforts to develop frameworks for the industry.

“It’s very difficult to follow the rules if the rules are constantly changing.” Noah added. Having regulations that are difficult to follow or denying users the products they want inevitably pushes users into unregulated spaces.
