Zcash launches new node, aiming for processing speed on par with Visa
Zcash has just released new node software called Zakura, the first step in a plan to boost the processing speed of private transactions to match major payment networks like Visa and Mastercard—tens of thousands of transactions per second, instead of only about one transaction per second as it is today. Zakura helps nodes start up much faster thanks to its ability to prune old data, while still remaining compatible with the older zcashd software that is scheduled to stop being supported.
To achieve its speed goal, developers are researching new cryptographic proof technology to drastically reduce the amount of data that must be processed, as well as improving how digital wallets retrieve information without revealing users’ identities. In parallel, Zcash is also set to activate the Ironwood upgrade on July 28, in order to fully address a serious security vulnerability that was discovered in June and may have been exploited to generate counterfeit ZEC for four years.
