Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has reached an impressive milestone: his estimated net worth now exceeds the annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state of São Paulo.

The billionaire's fortune, which is around US$ 700 billion, has primarily grown due to the appreciation of his companies' stocks.

Although the numbers are attention-grabbing, experts warn that net worth and GDP are not the same thing. GDP measures the economic output of a year, while Musk's wealth is an accumulated stock of assets.

Even so, the comparison symbolizes Musk's financial impact and global influence, making him, momentarily, "richer" than the largest state in Brazil.
