Iraq and Syria have just sealed the deal to revive the Kirkuk–Mediterranean oil pipeline to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, with all day long on standby waiting for something to blow up. The capacity has to be 700k barrels per day—no kidding!
But think about it and it’s kind of “funny.” If you go through the strait, you’re afraid of getting hit by bombs; but reviving the pipeline through Syria—a place that also hasn’t been peaceful at all—what’s the difference? Avoiding one kind of shell and running into another, that’s all, right?
Why don’t these two guys just cooperate on a brand-new pipeline running through Saudi Arabia to reduce risks—seems like the “rich and classy” approach?
