Hello, I am the TV remote. Normally I just stay put all day, but every time it’s World Cup season, I get pressed so much that I want to… take a leave of absence. Before the first half is even over, someone demands to turn up the volume, and someone else says to lower the sound so they can hear the commentary. Whenever the home team scores, I get flung onto the sofa because the owner jumps for joy too hard. And when their favorite team loses, I’m picked up and made to switch channels really quickly, as if changing the channel could change the result. Truth is, I’m only a small remote control, but every World Cup season I witness all kinds of emotions: happy, sad, tense, and even endless bouts of laughter.
