I will tell you something that no one in the crypto industry wants to hear. Something that will destroy the hopes of 90% of 'investors' chasing the next altcoin that 'will definitely do x100'.
Only Bitcoin and Ethereum make sense as long-term investments. The rest are mostly well-packaged mechanisms for extracting money from naive people. Unfortunately.
Wall Street understood the game. You haven't yet.
When BlackRock, Fidelity, and other massive institutions entered crypto, they didn't buy XRP, Cardano, or Solana. They bought #Bitcoin. Then #Ethereum. And that's the end of the list.
Why? Because they're not stupid. They have armies of analysts who analyze every aspect of investments for months. And what did they find?
Bitcoin: The most decentralized, the safest, limited supply, operating continuously for 16 years. Digital gold.
Ethereum: The infrastructure for the entire Web3. Most DeFi operates on Ethereum. Most NFTs also operate on Ethereum. The largest smart contract network. The network effect is so strong that competitors practically have no chance of surpassing it.
The rest: Experiment, hope, marketing, or simply - scam.
Wall Street has invested billions in Bitcoin ETFs and ETFs. And where are the Cardano ETFs? Solana ETFs? Polkadot ETFs?
Ethereum - the foundation of the new financial system
Let's talk honestly about Ethereum. It's not "one of many blockchains." It's the infrastructure of the future financial system.
BlackRock is tokenizing funds on Ethereum. JP Morgan is testing payments on Ethereum. Visa is settling transactions through Ethereum. Not through #Solana. Not through #Avalanche. Through Ethereum.
Why? Because Ethereum has:
The largest developer base
The largest liquidity
The strongest network effect
Proven stability (operating since 2015)
A clear development roadmap
All "Ethereum killers" are trying to kill something that has already won. It's like trying to replace the internet with something "better." Theoretically possible. Practically - there's no chance.
Altcoins: exit liquidity for VC funds
Now the most important thing. What no one is saying out loud.
Altcoins are a machine for extracting money from you.
It works like this:
Step 1: A venture capital fund (VC) invests $10 million in a new "revolutionary" blockchain project. They receive tokens at $0.05 each.
Step 2: The project does marketing, pays influencers, organizes AMAs, builds hype. "This is better than Ethereum!", "Faster!", "Cheaper!", "Eco-friendly!".
Step 3: The token hits the exchange at $5. VC already has 100x. You buy at $5, thinking "this is just the beginning!"
Step 4: The "unlock" schedule begins - VC tokens are gradually released and sold on the market. Millions of tokens hit exchanges every month.
Step 5: You watch as your altcoin, instead of rising in a bull market, falls or stays in place. You don't understand why. "But the technology is great!"
Step 6: VC exits with a profit of 50x-100x. You sit with a 70% loss. VC looks for the next project. The cycle repeats.
Why aren't altcoins rising like in 2017 or 2021?
Remember 2017? Every altcoin did x20, x50, x100 in a bull market. Remember 2021? The same. That's why you're sitting and waiting for your Cardano, Polkadot, or whatever you bought, to do the same.
But it won't happen. And here's why:
In 2017 and 2021, most altcoins had relatively fair token distribution. Founders and early investors had their tokens, but there weren't that many.
Now? Look at the new projects:
VCs and founders: 40-60% of all tokens
Community (that is, you): 10-20%
The rest: marketing, team, "ecosystem"
And these VC tokens are unlocked gradually over 2-4 years.
What does this mean in practice? Capital dilution.
Let's assume that $100 million of new capital flows into altcoin X during a bull market. Sounds great, right? The price should be shooting up!
But at the same time, $150 million worth of tokens are entering the market from unlocks. VC sells because they already have a 100x profit. The effect? The price falls despite the influx of capital.
This is not theory. This is happening now.
Funds have understood that this is easy money
VC funds are not fools. They know exactly what they are doing.
They see that crypto investors have operational memory like a goldfish. They remember 2017, they remember 2021. They think: "This bull market will be the same!"
And funds are taking advantage of it.
Now every new project raises $50-200 million from VCs before hitting the exchange. These are huge amounts. And each of these projects comes out with valuations in the billions.
You buy a token at a valuation of $5 billion, thinking it's an "early investment." But the VC bought it at a valuation of $50 million. They already have 100x. You are exit liquidity.
You are not an investor. You are exit liquidity for the funds.
"But the technology is better!"
That's the most common excuse. "Solana is faster!", "Cardano has better smart contracts!", "Avalanche has lower fees!".
And so what?
Betamax was better than VHS. It lost.
Google+ was better than Facebook. It died.
Windows Phone had better design than Android. It disappeared.
In technology, the best doesn't win. The one with the strongest network effect wins.
Ethereum has this effect. Bitcoin has this effect. The rest? They fight for scraps of the market, trying to convince developers, users, and institutions to switch from Ethereum.
They won't surpass. The switching costs are too high. The ecosystem is too strong. The liquidity is too large.
What about Solana? What about other "promising" projects?
Solana, Avalanche, Polkadot, Cardano - all have their niche. All have some technology. Some even have users.
But none of them have what Bitcoin and Ethereum have:
Proven stability (won't collapse at a critical moment)
Institutional interest (BlackRock won't buy Cardano)
Dominant network effect (developers won't switch to Polkadot)
Fair token distribution (no massive VC unlocks)
Can you make money on altcoins short-term? Yes, if you're lucky and exit at the right time. But long-term, it's a game where almost everyone loses.
Mathematics is ruthless
Let's compare returns from Bitcoin vs altcoins:
Bitcoin:
2015-2025: growth from $200 to $100,000 = 500x
Survived all bear markets
Recovered ATH and went higher
Most altcoins from 2017:
90% never bounced back to ATH from 2017
Many disappeared completely
Only a handful survived
New altcoins 2021-2024:
Most 70-90% below ATH
Continuous unlocks pull the price down
Communities die, developers leave
You can believe in the technology, you can believe in the team. But mathematics won't lie to you. Tokens are diluted. Capital is being drained. And you are on the wrong side of the transaction.
Summary: the truth hurts, but it will save you
I know you wanted to hear that your favorite #altcoin will do x100 and you'll be rich. I have no interest in you buying anything. That's why I can tell you the truth:
Only Bitcoin and Ethereum are worth holding long-term. The rest is a casino, where the odds are in favor of the VC fund, not yours.
You can ignore this. You can keep chasing x100 on altcoins. You can believe that "this time it will be different."
But mathematics is ruthless. Unlocks are ruthless for altcoins.
