On July 12, 2026, test results for an AMD EXPO ULL (ultra-low latency) DDR5 memory released at the Taipei International Computer Exhibition showed that, in the first batch of gaming scenarios, the technology achieved about a 4% increase in frame rates, consistent with AMD’s official claims.
EXPO ULL is a newly added set of refined configuration specifications by AMD for DDR5 memory. Based on the existing EXPO standard, it further optimizes several secondary and tertiary timing parameters, including tRRD, tFAW, tWTR, tWR, and tRFC, to reduce latency and improve responsiveness. Enabling it is extremely simple—users only need to turn on the corresponding option in the motherboard BIOS for it to take effect. However, you must ensure that the memory sticks you use clearly support EXPO ULL and that you pair them with motherboard firmware updated to a compatible version.
The tests use a G.Skill Trident Z5 NeoX DDR5-6000 CL36-36-36-76 dual-channel kit, with the platform running on the Ryzen 7 9700X processor. The comparison set includes DDR5-6000 CL30 kits running at the same frequency but without enabling ULL, as well as a more entry-level DDR5-5600 CL40 kit.
In F1 25, the EXPO ULL solution delivers an average frame rate improvement of 4.3%, with a 3.8% uplift at the 1% low. In Cyberpunk 2077, the average frame rate increases by 4.5%, and the 1% low improves even more, reaching 5.5%—both outperforming the performance of the CL30 non-ULL方案. In Baldur’s Gate 3 Arc Raiders and CS2, however, the improvements are limited to within 2%, and overall closely align with AMD’s stated conclusion that the average uplift across 30 mainstream games is about 4%.
In terms of pricing, the 32GB (2×16GB) G.Skill EXPO ULL kit is listed at about $529, which is $30 higher than the non-ULL version with the same specifications. At present, it is one of the relatively approachable-priced ULL products in the market. Some higher-end ULL kits are priced significantly higher—for example, a DDR5-6000 CL26 32GB kit is listed at $1,099, which is a premium of close to 80% over the standard EXPO version.
Notably, for users familiar with memory tuning, if the processor’s integrated memory controller is of good quality, then by manually optimizing timing parameters in the BIOS, it’s also possible to achieve performance that is close to—or even better than—that of the ULL preset. The core advantage of EXPO ULL is not the absolute performance ceiling, but that the manufacturer has already completed factory-level stability validation, offering a simplified plug-and-play experience. This makes it more suitable for typical users who prioritize efficient stability and do not want to delve into detailed debugging.
