Hello, I’m a TV remote control. Normally I just sit still all day, but whenever it’s World Cup season, I get pressed so much that I want to… take time off. Before the first half is even over, someone asks to turn the volume up, while another says to lower the sound so they can hear the commentary. Every time the home team scores, I’m tossed onto the sofa because the owner gets too excited and celebrates wildly. And when their favorite team loses, I’m picked up again to change channels really fast—as if switching channels could change the result. I’m just a tiny remote control, but every World Cup season I witness every kind of emotion: joy, sorrow, suspense, and endless bursts of laughter.
