If the assets are still in your wallet, is that really enough to be safe?
I used to think self-custody is the solution to most crypto problems.
Just keep the private key, and everything becomes trustless.
But the more I learn, the more I realize that having control over your assets is only part of the story.
On an exchange, trust also comes from how orders are processed and how the results are verified.
Even if users self-custody their assets, they still need to trust that orders are matched fairly, that prices are not being manipulated, and that the transaction results truly reflect what actually happened.
That’s why many projects don’t only focus on self-custody, but also look for ways to increase verifiability across the entire trading process.
Maybe the question is no longer “Who is holding the assets?”, but “What can you verify happened?”
GRVT @grvt_io approaches this problem by letting users maintain control of assets through on-chain settlement, while using an architecture that supports verifying transaction outcomes. The goal isn’t only self-custody, but also building trust in the entire trading process.
In your opinion, what creates more trust in trading: the ability to self-custody assets, or the ability to verify the entire process?
