Many beginners enter cryptocurrency with the desire to learn how to trade, but often underestimate one important factor: trading fees.

When the deposit is small, every trade matters. Even if the strategy works correctly, part of the profit can gradually be spent on commissions for buying and selling assets.

That’s why you should pay attention to trading pairs with zero commission that crypto exchanges periodically offer.

Why do fees matter?

Beginners often behave differently from experienced traders.

When a position moves into a small profit, there’s a temptation to quickly lock in gains.

This is completely natural: since there isn’t enough experience yet, it’s hard to judge whether the price will continue moving in the same direction.

As a result, the trader can:

  • open positions more often;

  • close them more often when the profit is small;

  • make significantly more trades than originally planned.

Each additional trade means additional costs in commissions.

That’s why beginners most often feel the impact of trading fees on their results.

How much can you save?

Let’s imagine two traders with a 1000 USDT deposit.

Over the month, each made 50 buys and 50 sells.

Total trading volume was:

100 trades × 1000 USDT = 100 000 USDT

If the commission is 0.1%, the costs will be:

100 000 × 0.1% = 100 USDT

For a deposit of 1000 USDT, that's already 10% of capital.

A trader can earn 8%, but after taking commissions into account, they may actually end up with no profit or even incur a loss.

When using a zero-commission trading pair, these expenses don’t exist, allowing you to focus on learning and improving your own strategy.

Why do exchanges offer zero commissions?

At first glance, this seems strange.

If the exchange earns from commissions, why give up part of the income?

There can be several reasons.

attracting new users

For many beginners, having no fee is extra motivation to try trading on a specific platform.

Increasing trading activity

As trade costs decrease, users trade more actively, and the exchange gets more liquidity and trading volumes.

Promoting specific assets

Sometimes zero commission applies only to certain trading pairs, which helps draw attention to specific coins or new listings.

Other sources of income

Modern crypto exchanges earn not only from spot trading fees.

Income can be generated by:

  • futures trading;

  • margin products;

  • staking;

  • listing new projects;

  • institutional services;

  • advertising campaigns.

That’s why waiving fees on specific trading pairs is often part of a user-acquisition strategy.

Zero commission doesn’t mean there’s no risk

It’s important to remember that even if the exchange temporarily waives the commission:

  • the market can move against your position;

  • volatility risks remain;

  • there may be spreads between the buy and sell prices;

  • campaign conditions may change.

So, zero commission should be viewed as a tool for learning and reducing costs, not as a guarantee of profit.

For a beginner, the main goal at the start of the journey isn’t maximum profit, but gaining experience and preserving capital.

Zero-commission trading pairs allow you to test strategies, learn how the exchange works, and gain practical skills without extra costs for each trade.

Sometimes the best investment at the start is not searching for the next rise in the market, but saving money that you can keep in your own portfolio.
