The cryptocurrency market operates around the clock, but the most profitable and powerful moves happen when “big money” enters the game. For a crypto trader, the most important time of day is the American trading session. This is exactly when institutional capital creates ideal conditions for technical trading.

🇺🇸 Timing of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in Kyiv

To not miss the market’s main impulses, save this schedule (shown as the current summer time):

  • 16:30 — Opening of the New York Stock Exchange. The start of maximum liquidity and volatility.

  • 23:00 — Market close. The period when American traders close positions, which often causes a final spike in the cryptocurrency market price.

(Note: In winter, from November to March, the schedule shifts by one hour later — opening at 17:30, closing at 24:00 Kyiv time).

📊 Strategy for the first 5-minute candle

Professionals don’t open trades in the very first second at 16:30. The start of the session is chaos, market noise, and the ‘shaking out’ of premature stop-losses.

Golden rule: Wait for the close of the first 5-minute candle (at 16:35 Kyiv time). It serves as your reference point:

  1. Defining the boundaries: The maximum (High) of this candle becomes a local resistance level, and the minimum (Low) becomes local support.

  2. Entry (Breakout): Trade the breakout. If the next candle confidently breaks and closes above the High of the first five-minute candle — we open a Long. If it breaks the Low — we open a Short.

  3. False breakout: If the price simply leaves a long wick (a pin) outside the candle and then moves back — this is liquidity being removed, and you cannot enter the market.

🛡️ Risk Management, Stop-Loss, and Take-Profit

Volatility at the US open is very high, so trading without protective orders is like liquidation.

  • Entry point (TP): The next candle’s body closes beyond the first 5-minute candle.

  • Stop-Loss (SL): Must be placed beyond the opposite boundary of the first 5-minute candle. If you entered Long, your stop is set below the Low of this candle.

  • Take-Profit (TP): Calculated using the mathematical risk-to-reward ratio (R:R). The ratio should be at least 1:2 or 1:3 (i.e., your potential profit is 2–3 times greater than the possible loss).

  • Risk Management: Never risk more than 1–2% of your total deposit in a single trade. If your stop-loss triggers, the loss should not be painful for your account.
