BOSTON – Gotbit Consulting LLC (Gotbit), a financial services company known in the cryptocurrency industry as a “market maker,” was convicted yesterday in a federal court in Boston on criminal charges related to fraudulent manipulation of the trading volume of cryptocurrencies on behalf of client companies in the industry.
Aleksei Andriunin, 26, a native of Russia and Portugal, was sentenced by Judge Angel Kelley of the U.S. District Court to eight months in prison, followed by one year of probation. In March 2025, Andriunin pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit market manipulation and wire fraud. Andriunin was arrested in Portugal on October 8, 2024, and was extradited to the United States on February 25, 2025.
