A victim, wallet 0xcB80, lost 50 million USD just because of a copy-paste address error.
Before transferring 50 million USDT, the victim sent a test amount of 50 USDT to their actual address:
0xbaf4b1aF…B6495F8b5

Immediately after, the scammer created a fake wallet with the same first 4 characters and last 4 characters, then executed an attack to poison the address.

Since many wallets only display addresses in a shortened form with “...”, users often:
Copy addresses from transaction history
Only check the first and last characters
This victim also had such a habit.
When transferring the remaining 49,999,950 USDT, the victim mistakenly copied the fake address from the transaction history, and the entire amount was sent directly to the scammer.

Result:
49,999,950 USDT vanished in a single transaction.

Lessons learned:
Always check the entire wallet address, not just the beginning and the end
Avoid copying addresses from transaction history for convenience
For large amounts, paste the address outside to compare each character, or use a whitelist
