*OpenGradient* is a decentralized computing platform focused on AI + blockchain. Similar to the open ledger AI concept we discussed earlier, but specifically for training & inference of AI models.
*The gist is this:*
1. *What is OpenGradient*
A platform that lets people rent or donate GPU/CPU to run AI, with all transactions recorded on the blockchain. So it doesn’t depend on AWS, Google Cloud, etc.
2. *Its 3 main features*
- *Decentralized Compute*: Do you have idle GPUs? You can rent them out to AI developers. Developers can pay less than they would on regular cloud. Everything uses smart contracts.
- *Verifiable AI*: The AI output + the process are hashed and verified on the blockchain. That means you can prove the model wasn’t tampered with, and the training data is valid.
- *Token Incentives*: Use tokens to pay for compute, reward nodes, and governance. Anyone who contributes resources gets rewarded.
3. *How it’s different from general AI open ledger*
If “AI open ledger” is the big-picture concept, OpenGradient is one of the projects that implements that concept. It focuses on the expensive & centralized nature of AI computing.
*The problem it aims to solve*: Training LLM models currently requires super expensive GPUs and is mostly limited to Big Tech. OpenGradient wants to “democratize” it so smaller developers can also participate.
