The 'Satoshi Era' Bitcoin address has moved for the first time in 14 years, linked to a $285 billion lawsuit.
An address that hasn’t seen any action since March 2011, holding 35.55 BTC (about $2.54 million), made a transfer this week. This address is considered one of the initial visible defendants in a New York lawsuit involving approximately 3.8 million BTC (valued at around $285 billion).
On June 2nd, the address transferred 15 BTC to a new wallet. In March, a plaintiff using the pseudonym 'Noah Doe' filed a lawsuit seeking ownership of about 3.8 million long-dormant Bitcoins under New York’s lost property law. The court approved sending on-chain notifications via the Bitcoin OP_RETURN field. Galaxy Research’s head of research pointed out that these Bitcoins were not actually abandoned.
Why it matters: This shows that some Bitcoins from the Satoshi Era, considered 'abandoned assets', are still under the control of the original holder, which could have significant implications for the legal definition of crypto asset ownership.
