Is Crypto Solving Inefficiency, or Just Hiding Complexity?

The more I study crypto, the more I find myself thinking about a question that rarely gets enough attention: when we make assets more productive, are we actually making the system better, or simply making it harder to understand?

I’ve been exploring projects like Bedrock, and what interests me is not the promise of liquid restaking itself. It’s the bigger trend it represents.

For years, crypto users faced a trade-off. If I wanted to participate in staking, I often had to sacrifice liquidity. If I wanted flexibility, I usually had to give up some form of participation. The industry has spent years trying to remove that tension.

Bedrock is part of a growing effort to change that. The idea is straightforward: allow assets to remain liquid while contributing to multiple layers of network activity. On paper, that sounds like a natural evolution of crypto capital.

But I think the deeper story is more interesting.

Every step toward greater capital efficiency seems to introduce another layer of abstraction. One asset becomes multiple claims. One position becomes several interconnected responsibilities. The system becomes more productive, but also more dependent on assumptions that most users never see.

That’s why I’m watching this space closely.

I don’t think the future will be decided by which protocol offers the most features.

I think it will be decided by which protocols can make complexity useful without making trust harder to understand.
