【The 'Signals' I've Seen Before a 'Ponzi Scheme' Goes Belly Up】
⭐️
Recently, I've noticed some platforms in the crypto space that are 'unable to process withdrawals', and I treat them all as 'Ponzi schemes'.
⭐️
I've personally encountered and participated in two 'Ponzi schemes':
- The first one, I had a 'passive' role, not deep into it, but my family members were heavily involved. This scheme collapsed at the end of 2021, lasting over 7 years.
- The second one, I wasn't involved, but my family members were heavily invested. This scheme is set to collapse at the end of 2025, lasting over 3 years.
1️⃣ 'Signals' Before a 'Ponzi Scheme' Collapses
⓵ Withdrawals are blocked for various reasons. Note, it might not be an outright ban on withdrawals; for example:
- If it's a C2C withdrawal method, the 'fees are sky-high', making you cringe. The day before the first scheme collapsed, withdrawing 10,000 only got me 5,000 or 7,000.
⓶ The website becomes inaccessible, but the officials don't issue any announcements. Usually, it's communicated from the top down in the group to maintain stability:
- 'System upgrade, the site will be back up in a while.'
- But delays can stretch into months, a year, or even two; the group keeps the narrative stable, saying anyone who claims the platform is collapsing will be muted.
⓷ The officials issue a notice, which could be:
- Blaming the shutdown on government crackdowns, saying they were forced to close down; this is somewhat reasonable.
- Collaborating with regulators, shutting down for maintenance, with reopening times TBD; this is the worst-case scenario.
2️⃣
I remind myself that in the crypto space, safety awareness is paramount; the moment withdrawals are blocked, it's time to run.
